The North Norfolk town of Cromer has once again welcomed GCSE Results success from Cromer Academy, celebrating yet another year of success for pupils who sat their GCSEs this summer. 75% of grades achieved in Maths and English were at grades 9-4 and 53% were at grades 9-5.

As Ofqual announced last week, the return to pre-pandemic grading means national results will be lower than last summer and will be most meaningful to compare to the results of 2019. Therefore, when comparing this year’s results vs. 2019’s results, Cromer Academy has seen a 19% increase in 9-5 grades achieved in Maths and English and an 10% increase in 9-4 Maths and English grades. This year's results saw a record breaking 41 grade 9s and 23 Distinction *s which are the top grades for GCSE and BTEC respectively compared to 2019 number of 20 and 9 respectively. A fantastic achievement.

These results come after the school received its third ‘Good’ consecutive Ofsted since 2016, whereby the school was praised for its ‘Outstanding’ leadership and management.

Darren Hollingsworth, Principal at Cromer Academy said:

“Our pupils have once again shown they are capable of achieving some of the best grades in the county and all of the community at Cromer Academy are so proud of our pupils. More importantly, their success means they can go on to the next step of their choosing knowing that they tried their hardest. Our results reflect how our academy continues to develop every year and we hope to be able to continue this success into the future.”

Standout subjects this year have built on success in last year's GCSEs and include Maths and English, History which performed well above national averages of pre covid years and Sport where over 58% of pupils achieved the coveted top grades of Distinction and Distinction*.

Cromer Academy has made it their mission to continue to build off recent success and doubled down to create a learning environment for pupils that allows them to thrive. Recently being named one of the Lead Schools for Behaviour and Culture in England, identifying them as a school that has a culture that optimises behaviour and ultimately improves pupil attainment and narrows educational gaps, seen once again in the success of their GCSE results.

15 pupils are looking to continue their studies at Inspiration Trust sixth form colleges, Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form or Jane Austen College Sixth Form, both based in Norwich city-centre.

All Year 6 families in the area are invited to visit Cromer Academy this Autumn with their open evening on Tuesday 26th September 6-8pm.
