We were invited to collaborate with the project, Monica’s Meadow, based at the Holkham Hall Estate – just down the road! The invite came following the fantastic work we have achieved through becoming an Eco School and continuing to hold our Green Flag status since first achieving a distinction in 2022.

The sustainability project is named after Monica Vinader, the Spanish-born, Princess of Wales-approved jewellery designer whose company HQ is based on the estate at Holkham Hall. Monica’s love of nature is evident in her commitment to sustainability and is growing in the work of her company as well.

Monica’s company transitioned to 100 per cent recycled silver back in 2019, and this project is hoping to rewild a 17-acre meadow, supported by the conservation team at Holkham Hall. There are hopes to reintroduce oxeye daises, cowslip, meadow buttercups and lady’s bedstraw to the degraded piece of farmland.

It is extremely important to keep our environment secure and protect it where we can, as a school we have our Eco Committee who are focused on doing what we can for the environment. The committee supports decision-making and meets to discuss upcoming projects and plans that our students get involved in, from working on our gardens and providing habitats for wildlife on our site.

On the 18th of September, members of our eco-enrichment group visited the meadow to learn about the landscape regeneration project, how they measured their impact and how the school can replicate this in our school grounds.

Further visits are planned out to the estate for the Summer term, and you can read more about Monica’s meadow and her project in an article Monica gave to Vogue Magazine.
