Dear families

It is difficult to believe just how fast another school year has gone. I’d like to thank you for your support throughout the year and look forward to working with you again in September.

We say farewell to Miss Seville and Mrs Pardon who leave us to take a post at a new school and promotion respectively and we thank them for their loyalty to Cromer.

There are simply too many highlights to mention but some stand out:

The Back to the 80s production was a phenomenal showcase of our pupils’ talent and working alongside our staff, we saw a genuine team collaboration.

Our personal development week saw our pupils experience a wide range of activities and adventures and staff are already planning for next year. Trips such as the ones offered really do broaden the cultural capital of our pupils.

Sports day was a huge success and was a house event in the truest sense. The community ethos really stood out and although House Davies, lifted the trophy, the day belonged to all. House Blogg received the ‘Spirit’ cup for house cheer and the staff played their part in their house colours, too.

We welcome our new cohort of prefects who will be led by Heads of School, Eloise Birch and Noah McLean. Good luck to all of our pupil leaders!

A reminder of dates for return:

Yr 7 and Yr 11: Wednesday 6th September

Yrs 8, 9, 10: Thursday 7th September.

Finally, a separate notification, independent of this newsletter has been sent reminding all of our home school agreement regarding expectations on behaviour and attendance and details on uniform expectations. Please give these documents due thought.

I wish you all an enjoyable summer break and quality family time.

Very best wishes

Darren Hollingsworth

Ski School

Both groups for Ski School this year were absolutely superb, representing the Cromer Academy values to the fullest at all times. Staff at the Ski Club commented on what a pleasure they all were - so polite and attentive throughout, despite the warm weather and having to wear long sleeves, trousers, heavy boots and skis! The resilience and determination shown by all was second to none. Both groups were so committed that they were skiing from the top of the small slope well before expected.

Plenty of awards were given, including:

Determination: Sienna Leith and Jack Annison

Resilience: Maci Potter and Harry Crayford

Confidence: Connie Harrington and Jude Amies

Manners and respect: Elsie Richardson and Isabelle Ely

Kindness: Georgia Gilbert and Faith Smith

Positivity: Daisy Lunday and Emma Hornagold-Yaxley

Best smiles: Annalisa Ciarleglio

Best fall: Shindy Huang

Best ski-lift entertainment: Nelson Inacio

Fastest skier: Callum Bradley

Ski Skills: Josephy Pyle

Cycling

The cycling North Norfolk activity days saw pupils putting in the miles and taking in some of the sites from our wonderful part of the county. Pupils visited Mundesley seafront, Baconsthorpe castle and Felbrigg hall, clocking up just under 50 miles over the course of just two days. Some pupils reported that they had only ridden a total of 5 miles in one ride, so to clock over 20 miles was a huge achievement.

Pupils also found that North Norfolk is far from flat, as the they gained over 250m in elevation per day, the equivalent to five Cromer church towers stacked on top of each other. Pupils showed great resilience and determination as they battled the heat, hills and flies, but finished with a great sense of accomplishment.

Dice n Ride

Cromer Academy completed another fun packed trip to Pleasurewood Hills again this year. Trip staff combined some board game fun in school with a day at the park. Always looking to weave in some Maths whenever possible, staff encouraged pupils to consider how Maths and algorithms might help them navigate the park rides in an optimal fashion. On the park day it was all about fun and pupils were wonderful, making it a really enjoyable trip. Staff had some fun too.

Wild Wales

27 pupils and 5 staff endured 4 days in Wales, based in a YHA at the base of Mount Snowdon in Snowdonia National Park. Following an epic coach journey, the pupils were thrilled to discover a stunning lake opposite our accommodation where they enjoyed Wild Wales in all its glory.

Highlights of the trip were all pupils and staff completing the fastest zipwire in the world at ZipWorld and scaling Mount Snowdon in changeable and at times, difficult weather conditions with the aid of 4 experienced mountain guides. Several pupils overcome their fears to complete the zipwire whilst others displayed incredible grit and determination to reach the summit of Snowdon.

Some downtime was enjoyed in the town of Caernarfon and its magnificent castle, recognised around the world as one of the greatest buildings of the Middle Ages.

An amazing time was had by all with special memories made that will last a lifetime.

Animation

We had a lovely set of two days with students on Animation experience in which we explored the world of Disney and Pixar learning about each ones past to the present day. We spent time learning how to draw Stitch from Lilo and Stitch and then the students were allowed to explore their creative drawing skills on other Disney, Pixar and other animated characters. Overall some amazing talent on display from all students who took part over the 4 days in total.

Outdoor Adrenaline Experience

Students visited Hautbois Activity centre on the first day, taking part in abseiling, paddleboarding and archery.

On the second day we visited Go Ape at Thetford forest where students completed obstacles courses through the tree tops, including ziplining back down to the forest floor. In the afternoon we played team building games and enjoyed ice creams out in the sun.

Paris

After an early start, our group arrived at Paris in the afternoon of 4th July. On the first day, we visited Sacre Coeur to enjoy the amazing views across the city, and then went to Montmartre where some pupils had their caricatures drawn, before eating in a restaurant on the Place du Tertre.

On Wednesday, we visited the Notre Dame Cathedral, where we learned about the renovations being undertaken to restore this key landmark following the fire several years ago. We then took a boat trip on the Seine, and visited the Eiffel Tower, climbing up to the second floor to look at the city. Finally, we went across the river to Place du Trocadero, before heading back to the hotel and an evening meal at Disneyland.

On our final day, we took in the art of Monet at the Orangerie museum on Place de la Concorde, and then walked to the Louvre before heading homewards on our coach via the Champs-Elysées and Arc de Triomphe.

Cromer Academy 3 Peaks Challenge

Good luck to our staff team taking on the National 3 Peaks Challenge this weekend, raising funds for Cure Leukemia in memory of Alfie Gibson. If you would like to sponsor the team, please click on the link here.

Notorious for its physical demands, the National Three Peaks Challenge is also incredibly difficult due to the time constraints. Sixteen Cromer staff, consisting of twelve climbers and four support crew, aim to hike up and down the highest mountain in Scotland (Ben Nevis 1345m), England (Scafell Pike 978m) and Wales (Snowdon 1085m) within 24 hours.

Alongside the 23 miles of hiking, there is a lot of travelling and very probably little sleep! The team have been putting in the hours, going on practice walks whenever possible with many Cromer residents seeing them out and about dressed in their full Cure Leukaemia kit.

Good Luck!!
